Things I've Learned from our Trip to the Vet...

Cali hasn't been feeling well and has been grumpy, so I thought it was necessary to take her to the vet. As mentioned in my last post... the girls had to come with.
Here are a few things I learned:

- Always bring back up blankets ('pappies' as well call them here). Because Riley will certainly drop it the second we walk in and it will land right next to the lovely puddle of PEE that someone so kindly DID NOT clean up. Great. If you know Riley, you know she is NEVER without her pappy.

- Be prepared for 'doggie overload.' My kids LOVE dogs. Love seeing them in real life, love barking, love identifying them in books, tv, etc. LOVE dogs. So once in the office, they were SURE to repeatedly show me and tell me where EVERY. SINGLE. DOG was. On every poster, every ad, everything. Thank you, girls. Thank you.

- Don't have such hope in the power of a smoothie. It didn't last long before they were antsy and wanting out of the stroller despite the smoothie. :(

- It always take longer than expected. An hour and 15 minutes actually. Ugh!

- Men can't multitask like women can. The doctor... a MALE... had a bit of a difficult time talking to me about my dog with my children squirming and screaming to get OUT of their stroller that they had been in for a LONG time. He was a bit flustered. :) Pretty sure if it was a woman, it wouldn't have been as big of a deal. hee hee.

- And finally, I can get a bit defensive. After voicing my concern about my dog acting 'off' and aggrivated with my kids since she's been sick, the dr. said, and I quote, "She might just be grumpy because she doesn't feel good, or... she might just not like your kids." Hmmmph!

What a day!

Did he really say that! Rude! Definitely not a dad, that's for sure.

I just LAUGHED OUT LOUD about the "not liking your kids ..." part! I knew this trip to the vet would make for a fabulous blog post! Sorry it was crazy! Hope Cali is feeling better after the marathon vet trip!

Oh my! You're Super Mom! I'd never attempt taking my girls and dogs to the vet by myself! I have enough trouble just taking the two dogs without the girls! Luckily you'll be able to look back at this story someday and it will make you smile :)

You poor thing! I'm stressed just after reading this! What a rude vet! I hope sweet Cali is better soon.

He didn't! He said that? Find a new vet! (Okay, that might be overreaction.)

I haven't been to the vet without my kids since they were born. I actually sought out a kid-friendly vet; I knew one of the veterinary assistants at the practice. She's a mom of twins, who are now grown, and has a soft spot for both my girls and my cat.

I have the vet assistants fighting over who gets to occupy my daughters while our cat is checked out. We're so spoiled. (It helps that one of the assistant's twins, the boy, is in the Marines, so she's especially understanding about the challenges of military life.)

So every evening Kenny comes homes. The kids are running around screaming (dinner time until bedtime is the WORST time in our house). They are fighting. Or something or another. It never fails that I talk like I don't even hear them, and Kenny can barely get out one word he is so distracted by them. Men. They just can't hang...
