One and the Same: REVIEW & GIVEAWAY!!!

Being a mama to twins, never crossed my mind. It never seemed like a true possibility. Even when going through infertility treatments, I knew in my head it could happen, but I still never imagined it. But how thankful I am that God had other plans! I’ve always been intrigued by twins as I grew up with identical twins as close friends of mine, and now, as an adult, my best friend is a fraternal twin. My interest has grown even more since Reese and Riley were born. Although they are not identical, as most are that are mentioned in Abigail Pogrebin’s book, I still found it incredibly heartwarming, informative, and written in such a way that I could not put it down.

In Abigail Pogrebin’s book, One and the Same My Life as an Identical Twin and What I’ve Learned About Everyone’s Struggle to Be Singular, I absolutely adored the picture she painted in the Introduction of her relationship with her twin sister, Robin. It’s beautiful. Real. Inspiring. Even as their relationship changes through the years, this picture continues through the pages in the book tying it all together in such a lovely way. The exceptional writing of encounters with other twins, interviews with experts, and extensive (fascinating!) research was riveting. There were moments of laughter, moments where tears filled my eyes, and moments where my heart wanted to explode with joy. Oh I just loved it!

Reading this book helped me to better understand the relationship between twins: how special it is, how unique. Although my girls are not identical, so it’s a bit different, the ‘twin thing,’ as mentioned in her book, is there, and I can already identify it in their close, sweet two-year-old relationship. My better understanding left me in awe. I feel so lucky to raise these girls, these best friends.

I learned so much from Abigail. It was so interesting to read about the competition (healthy and unhealthy) between twins, fertility doctors’ perspectives on multiple births, the importance of individuality, and I was cracking up reading the chapter, Twin Shock 101. It was all so comical, yet, so true! It feel like the newborn, overwhelming, ‘I’m clueless!’ stage was so long ago, however, how could I really forget?! How wonderful it was to read these words and better understand my precious Reese and Riley.

One and the Same is a must read if you are a twin, have twins, know a twin, or are just curious about their relationship as I always have been. The quest for individuality of your children is an important one to understand as a mother. Especially a mother of twins. Thank you, Abigail, for illustrating the intricacies of twinship so beautifully. What a fabulous read!

This is perfect timing because I just asked this week on my blog if anyone could lend me the book! Enter me!

The boys start real school in 15 months so we have started to think about whether or not to separate them, which makes me much more interested in reading the book.

My son will be 4 next month and my identical twin girls are 19 months old, Abigail and Emily. Emily was a late walker too! While it is hard sometimes and I'm not able to take the kids to as many places as I would like (think swimming in the Texas heat), my kids remind me daily how special it is to have twins.
