When I took the girls to their 2year appointment a few weeks ago, I asked the doctor about Reese's pacifier (Riley hasn't taken one since 4 months). She was still napping and sleeping at night with it. He said it's fine til about 2 1/2 unless: 1. It's effecting her speech (doesn't) or 2. it's pushing her teeth forward (it is...). SO... last Saturday, Oct 2 was the day that we were to say Bye bye to the pacis. I was dreading it like crazy because my Reesey girl LOVES her 'pass.' Well my dread was with good reason. ;)
Saturday morning, we talked to her (and had been mentioning it all week) about how pacis are for babies and that she's a big girl. She helped us (reluctantly :) ) put all her pacis in a big yellow envelope to send to babies. She got pretty excited about it! Then she got to open a present in place of her pacis... a Big Girl Pappy (that's what they call their blankets/lovies). She loved it!
BUT... it has been ROUGH. However we've gone from 1 1/2 hours of SCREAMING (we'd go up and reassure her, rock her, etc) to now just 10 minutes of SCREAMING before falling asleep. Hoping in the next few days, our big girl will be completely over the paci. And she's getting her 2 year molars which doesn't help- poor baby!
No more sweet paci face...

Ha, I feel your pain girl! And I'm sooooo glad it's over...and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be either! Such a big girl!!!
Erg...this scares the crap out of me since both of ours still use them and they love them immensely. I told Husband about the 1.5 hours of screaming and his eyes just about popped out of his head. I think we're going to do big beds and then pacis.
Yikes. One of my girls still uses a paci for sleep and naps only but wow..this post is definitely our future. She will not do well with the change, I have no doubt of that. They're 21 months old right now...so we have a couple of months before the nightmare! ;-)
What a big girl!! My sister warned me of the horrors of saying bye bye to paci's...so we took the twins pacis away around 14 months and it wasn't too bad since we did it so early. And we are currently working on Bows as well. I AM going to win this one....bows are just TOO cute!!!
